How PRIER’s Products Measure Up

By Scott Brady, Research, Development and Engineering Manager

PRIER has been around a long time – since 1881 – but we can’t take credit for developing the standards by which we measure our products. But it is interesting to learn where these standards originated. Two common units of measure we frequently use are water flow in gallons/minute (GPM) and pressure in pounds/in2 (psi).

February 23, 2016 – Grandview, MO – PRIER Products is proud to announce the appointment of a new manufacturer’s representative, The Pointer Agency, to represent Georgia.

Determining YOUR Brand

By Nick Manning, President

We hear about “building brands” literally every day. Magazines have devoted forests of paper and rivers of ink to talk about brand building. There are brand building “gurus” all over LinkedIn, Twitter and other social networking sites. In fact, a quick Twitter search returned an endless list of links to ‘Rules of Brand Building’ and ‘5 Easy Steps to Building a Brand.’

By Brady Poskin, Plant Manager

No matter the industry, we all share a similar struggle…managing time. It’s the one resource we cannot change or throw money at to overcome. Perhaps the most common problem in business, or even in life, is having more to do than time permits. How do we resolve this dilemma? Well, since we cannot change time, we have to determine what to do (and what not to do) and manage those activities. More specifically, we have to manage our behaviors more effectively and efficiently.

Product Highlight: C-434

If you’ve ever left a hose attached to your standard freezeless hydrant during freezing weather, you’ve probably learned the hard way that doing so prevents water from draining and can cause the hydrant to rupture inside your house. Needless to say, this can be a real headache and could result in a costly repair. With freezing weather in the forecast all across the states, the PRIER C-434 Heavy Duty Residential Wall Hydrant takes the extra step to prevent your pipes from bursting and gives you peace of mind during cold weather.

Say It Ain’t So, Joe!

By Cindy Coats, Controller

At PRIER, our mission statement says we want our PRIER partners to be all they can be both inside and outside of PRIER. This is a time of year that Joe Poskin, our CEO, loves to reflect on the past year and push forward with plans for the New Year. I’ve almost come to embrace this. He certainly gets excited and that excitement is contagious!

It’s the System, Not the People

By Scott Brady, Research, Development and Engineering Manager

Anyone who has studied Quality, like myself, has heard of Dr. W. Edwards Deming. Deming was an engineer/professor/consultant best known for his work in Japan after WWII. He worked with the leaders of Japanese industry and is credited for being the inspiration that helped Japan rise from the ashes to become the second most powerful economy in the world. Deming championed the work of another Quality guru, Walter Shewhart, who originated the concept of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and the use of control charts. Deming took this concept and applied it to industrial production and management, leading to his theory of management. He saw that these ideas could not only be applied to manufacturing processes, but also to the processes by which enterprises are led and managed.
