No matter the industry, we all share a similar struggle…managing time. It’s the one resource we cannot change or throw money at to overcome. Perhaps the most common problem in business, or even in life, is having more to do than time permits. How do we resolve this dilemma? Well, since we cannot change time, we have to determine what to do (and what not to do) and manage those activities. More specifically, we have to manage our behaviors more effectively and efficiently.

This is a time of year that Joe Poskin, our CEO, loves to reflect on the past year and push forward with plans for the New Year. I’ve almost come to embrace this. He certainly gets excited and that excitement is contagious!

Anyone who has studied Quality, like myself, has heard of Dr. W. Edwards Deming. Deming was an engineer/professor/consultant best known for his work in Japan after WWII. He worked with the leaders of Japanese industry and is credited for being the inspiration that helped Japan rise from the ashes to become the second most powerful economy in the world. Deming championed the work of another Quality guru, Walter Shewhart, who originated the concept of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and the use of control charts. Deming took this concept and applied it to industrial production and management, leading to his theory of management. He saw that these ideas could not only be applied to manufacturing processes, but also to the processes by which enterprises are led and managed.

I remember the first time I received a call from Joe Poskin at PRIER Products, Inc. After hanging up the phone, I logged into PRIER’s website and read that the website had recently been updated by Nick Manning. I didn’t know either of them from Adam, but after reading the rich history of PRIER Products, I wanted to know more. My family has always been interested in our lineage and how we got to be who we are today. I feel like knowing PRIER’s past makes me a part of the family and a part of PRIER’s future.
