Lawn Winterization
Fall is a great time to get that lawn ready for next year and prepare for the coming of winter. By putting in the effort now, you could have the greenest grass on the block come next spring. Most people are familiar with this process and various tips can be found anywhere- on the web, lawn and garden centers, hardware stores and libraries- to help you get started on your lawn winterization project. But don’t forget that the lawn mower could also use some winterization. Preparing your lawn mower now will pay off next spring when you go to pull that cord and start the engine. Lawn-Boy shares some great tips for maintaining and keeping your lawn mower in top condition.

BBQ Grill Winterization
The BBQ grill is another item that can be winterized to help maintain its life and keep you from having to buy another one sooner than you would like. With a few simple cleaning and maintenance steps you can show your neighbors again why they love coming to your house for BBQ’s. Not sure where to start? An article on Yahoo! provides some helpful information and advice for closing up the grill for the season.

Outside Water Supply Winterization
If you have a PRIER freezeless residential hydrant you won’t have to worry about shutting off your water source or insulating the valve. These hydrants are designed to shut off the water within the heated portion of the house and allow water to drain out from that point; thus preventing your pipes from freezing. All you need to remember in this case is to remove the hose from the valve, as the hose prevents the hydrant from draining out and could result in your pipes freezing.

Once winter begins, it may be too late to update your outdoor water faucet with a heavy pattern, high quality, freezeless PRIER valve. In the meantime, there are steps you can take to avoid frozen pipes that can make the winter seem even longer. See eHow’s article for more information on this process.

Whatever you chose to do with this time, remember the words of Benjamin Franklin: “You may delay, but time will not.” So as the chill in the air gets chillier the above winterization projects can help you maintain a few of your summer joys for next summer.
