PRIER’s New Quick Connect Valve

I recently had the opportunity to help my neighbor, Dave, who asked if I knew how to fix his dripping faucet. When we looked at it from the outside, I discovered he had an import product which would make finding repair parts be very difficult. We concluded that his best option was to replace the valve. The other concern Dave and I had was that the water supply to the valve was in a tight spot in his basement. Therefore, soldering in a connection would be extremely difficult. Dave was unaware at the time, but this project turned out to be an opportunity for me to install this new style hydrant with the “quick connect” fitting.

The installation went smoothly once we determined what we were going to do and what products we needed. First, we received a new PRIER C-144S08 residential hydrant (8″ valve replacing the 8″ original model) with a slim seat, which easily entered through the existing hole. This slim “S” seat also allows for a push-fitting to be easily installed on the valve. Next, we determined the PRIER valve inlet was ¾” and the copper supply line was also ¾”. Therefore, we needed a ¾” by ¾” push-fitting for the installation. After turning off the interior water source, we cut the copper line just behind the previous connection. Next, we measured again and determined exactly how much copper needed to be left on with the added fitting to meet the correct length for the wall. We cut it again at the right length, de-burred the copper pipe and pushed on the fittings to the pipe and valve. With tight fits on the copper and valve, we turned on the water to test it. Presto! It worked. We then went outside and secured the wall hydrant to the wall (with heavy screws) and tested it again. We had a very happy neighbor and a new found appreciation for product innovations that work.

The push-on fitting installation only took Dave and I about 30 minutes! To see how easy the installation is, check out PRIER’s Quick Connect Installation Video here.

Some say that “seeing is believing” and I am here to say that “installing is believing!”
