These events have only one goal: to have fun with our fellow PRIER partners. The events run the gamut of celebrating a holiday such as “National Root Beer Float Day” at our afternoon break to meeting on a weekend for a tailgate party at a Kansas City sporting event. Last year, our bowling outing was such a success that now, a small group of associates meet up for bowling most Monday evenings after work. The events are low cost, however the value and fun received is priceless. As our partners build bonds with each other, the walls between departments are broken down, creating a stronger team. Some of our events, like our summer cook out, are repeated every year resulting in new PRIER family traditions. Like any family, repeated traditions bring back fond memories. It is very important to build a history filled with wonderful memories. PRIER looks forward to many more years together building even more fun and valuable traditions.
With Halloween upon us, PRIER participates in a costume contest among all of its associates. I am sure we all remember fun Halloween events from our childhood. The memories of caramel apples and candy corn always come to mind for me. My family lived on a military base and the officers always gave out full sized candy bars! When my husband and I moved into an older neighborhood where the homes are very close together, we never dreamed that we’d get between 200 and 300 trick-or-treaters every year. I am sure those full sized candy bars have contributed to the numbers! We have 3 adorable ghosts on our front lawn and children come to have their pictures taken with those ghosts. It has been fun watching the same kids come back each year, making our home a part of their holiday tradition.
Here is an easy recipe that you may want to add to your fall or Halloween traditions. Use apples for dipping and you will get fruit, vegetables and protein along with your sugar, so it is not just wasted calories! Serve the dip in a hollowed out sugar pumpkin and make any holiday table festive!
Pumpkin Dip
8-ounces: Low Fat Greek Yogurt Cream Cheese (regular cream cheese will work as well)
1-cup: Powdered Sugar (I do not know any way to make this healthy!)
8-ounces: Whipped Topping (light or sugar free)
15-ounces: Canned Pumpkin
1-Tablespoon: Pumpkin Pie Spice
Hollowed out Sugar Pumpkin for Serving (optional)
Apple Slices for Dipping
Graham Crackers or Ginger Snaps for Dipping
Use an electric mixer to cream together the cream cheese and powdered sugar. Mix in the whipped topping, canned pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice. Serve in a hollowed out sugar pumpkin or in a bowl. Surround it with the apple slices, crackers and cookies for dipping and watch the yummy pumpkin dip disappear…Spooky!
